Oct22 - Hikers Climber, Shah Alam Extreme Park

Recently bought vouchers to the http://www.everyday.com.my/coupons/kl/hikers_climber_rockclimbing.htm! Our company had recently went for wallclimbing at Camp5, 1Utama.

The voucher price varies from RM17-RM19. 8 of us were suppose to attend this session, after a month of organising. In the end, only 2 of us made it instead.

Hikers Climber is located at the Shah Alam Extreme Park. Just look for the Shah Alam Stadium.
Lots of parking space & breakfast is just around the corner
The main building office
There's a skating/skateboarding ring and futsal building
Office
Just head here to register yourself
(remember to book prior so that they can get ready the equipment)
Paintball
To occupy your kids, rent a bicycle.
Better yet, bring your own. This is a huge compound.

For our wallclimbing, we were supplied with the neccessary equipment eg. belay set, harness, shoes.
Their shoes are pretty worn out with holes at the tip.
The walls here are much rougher than Camp5, so climbers tend to scrap alot on the walls.
This is what we are suppose to climb...whoooaaa!!!
Oh, and this is the best landmark if trying to find this place.
But don't worry, we are actually climbing the inside part of the sculpture.
This is more towards the beginners climb.
Since we already know how to climb, we didn't need an instructor, just a certified belayer.
The route was fairly easy.
With only the 2 of us and even in between few minutes water breaks, we just couldn't climb for 2hrs.
hahahha...spidey coming down the wall
(no i didn't climb that way, pic is tilted)
That's the max I went.
This is how it looks from the top.
Brought my camera up with me.
Lam's turn
You see the right picture, the trail Lam is on & the trail on the right.
We did the (1) right, then (2) left, then the (3) left trail, blue only, (4) then green only.
(5) Then the right trail, yellow only.
Really quite challenging when climbing only on specific colours.
For the outer walls, are the more experience climbers. There's no fixed belay line for you to climb with.
Climbers have to climb up, then hook, then climb somemore, then hook again.
We took a climb inside the sculpture.
This looks like how we see CSI climbing into the water-drainage below the city =p
If you wan to tie a fix belay line on the top of the sculpture, the climber have to climb thru this to set it.
Shah Alam Extreme Park
There's a flying fox line as well. There's a game for this.
U have to carry 2 plastic balls, then upon ur decent, throw into the yellow pails.
Try & spot the yellow pails in the picture
There was a company having a Mini Amazing Race at the moment.
Different stations were set around the park.
They were given compass for navigation purposes.
This station is called "Kandar" like nasi kandar
Collect 2 pails filled with the lovely teh tarik water
Climb & walk across the bridge until the end, then u-turn back again towards the pond.
There's also a game of paintball going on.
Outdoor paintball with 2 fields, small & big.
One of the stations was the archery. I took advantage by giving it a go.
Outdoor archery is different from indoor
(1) the target is not on flat wall but on the ground with stand, at an angle.
(2) wind & sun factor
Pro at work
I missed on first 2 tries. 1st time was too left. 2nd time was too low.
With these 2 factors countered, I nailed it on the 3rd try. Not a bulls-eye but it was a lucky one.

I would say this is a good place for a company outting.
Get out of the office & get some sun.

Oct15 - Putrajaya Night Marathon 2011

2 months after PD Triathlon, this was the major race I had been training for. A 42km Marathon is not something to look lightly on. With the thought "If I can't run to finish it, I can still walk" should never cross your mind with this distance or more. Proper training in mileage & intake should always be considered.

My last marathon was at Korea Marathon in Mar 2011. Nothing that long distance ever since. My legs might have been ready then, but there's always something different between local & international races.

I had previously ran this race before in 2010, I can vaguely remember the conditions, the mental, the humidity. Somehow I don't believe that anything would have changed. The road is still there, the heat and the long highways.
Received my race kit in the mail a week before the race.
No turning back now...
Lunch on race day. There's always Dominos to help u carbo-load at the dial of a phone
Welcome to Putrajaya
Due to traffic & lack of shelter, the heat from the sun is captured into the tar roads.
And the lovely street lights will lead u on your route
And on and on and on....And that is where the mentality kicks in
We signed up for this. We trained for this.
We are marathoners
In the pen, with all the yellow bibs
Grace, an up&coming athlete/triathlete doing the 10km
Sports will only make u healthy (let's try not to run too close to vehicles)

8pm was the starting time for the 42km, then 820pm for the 21km & 840pm for the 10km.
From my training and sidekick Garmin watch, I maintained a good pace for the first 20km in 2hrs.
Not really a PB but there's still another 22km to go.
Wedding pictures are often taken in Putrajaya due to the architecture, but this couple was sporting enough to go on with their session with runners as the background.
Left : this is only the start
Right : another 1km to the finish. (The difference, sweat on my jersey)

25km was when I bonk. Too soon. After that, the distance just kept getting longer & further.
I would tell my legs to give me 400meters, then I'll walk abit.
But the more you walk, the longer the journey.
Lesson learnt, I can't carry my gels using the SPI belt.
1st, the bounce is terrible.
2nd it hits the pressure on my abdomen, that I felt kind bruised
I had to bend my body a couple of times due to aching back.
Thankfully there was ice to rub on our heated body to cool us down.

I was compressed from thighs to calves. No cramps but just sore thighs.
Tomato paced with KS for 15km then fell back.
KS looked like a typical triathlete in tri suit & skins compression shorts
This is the most curious encounter. I was already very blur from the race.
Then along the way, a lonesome car & someone clapping w encouragement.
That looks like Paul...nah..wat the heck is he doing here. I was in denial.
Being the steady KS, he kept to pace & completed in Sub4 (damn!!)
His training paid off. Me? I'm just lazy =p
The good news was Putrajaya is usually quite easy on the cash prize.
In 2010, there was a split in the category. For Women, we can either pick on the Open / Malaysian Only.
We'll just got for the category that gives most cash, which also gives the other runners a winning chance.

No luck this year. Only 1 category but at least with a Top20 position.
But funny thing is that on hooha.asia website, it does state this category for the 42km
but I was not notified of this when I went to collect my prize.
I was too freaking tired to pick an argument after running/walking for 5hrs.

I can't say I liked the route since I felt ultimately lost most of the time.
Usually I like to run on familiar route, so that I can guess I'm somewhat home.
KS said that if I don't get back by 4hrs (midnite) he's heading home.
Well, after he took a look at me when I crossed the finish line, he didn't dare to say anything =p
I just went straight to the Medical tent and just sat there. Very stilll.....
It was KS lucky night coz he got the 20th spot in his category. 1st time winning a prize.
Seriously, it's not easy for the Men category. Even for the veterans.
The older they are, the faster they run..hahahha
My terrible results.
Comparatively to 2010, it didn't differ much..ahhahhaha
As for KS, he made much improvement by hitting the sub4 mark (even for a local race)
ACTION!!! =p

P/S : special thanks for all the pics taken from CP Tan, Grace, Tomato & etc.

Oct10 - Passionately You - Don't Duck It

The Passionately YOU Cervical & Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is a voluntary collaboration between Assunta Hospital, Asia Assistance, Jaya One and PJ Live Arts founded to encourage the community to support the cause for cervical & breast cancer awareness and early detection. It also helps raise funds for the Community Treatment Program at Assunta Hospital that provides aid to cancer patients from the low income group.

■Main Objective – Raise awareness (to educate people on how to detect, what to do, and how to deal with) to the masses, starting from 18 years old and moving upwards to 45 years old.

■Secondary Objective – Fund raising for Assunta Hospital Foundation’s Social Welfare Fund. The Foundation provides subsidized or free-of-charge treatments to patients in the low income group.

Don’t Duck It is a social media campaign under Passionately You that aims to help further our reach to the public using social media in various forms and ideas, sharing various on-ground awareness events and activities as well as hoping to create a viral effect in order to draw more attention towards our cause and to share knowledge on early detection and prevention of breast and cervical cancer.

The committee are currently gathering pledges on dontduckit.com to show that we care for those who suffered from breast and cervical cancer and more importantly, we care for our health too.
Either pledge thru monetary or purchase their campaign t-shirts & raffle tickets and help spread the “Don’t Duck It” message to your friends and family.
Funds from t-shirt & raffle ticket sales go to Assunta Foundation which helps less fortunate cancer patients. Shirts are going for RM30 & raffle tickets going for RM5 each.

Raffles draw will be done and prizes including a 42″ LED TV, Apple Macbook Air, Holiday Travel vouchers, iPad2, SONY Playstation 3, and cash vouchers to be won!
Last but not least, lock your date on 22nd October 2011 for the Don’t Duck It Party happening at Jaya One.

It’s a whole day carnival-like event aimed at the public to create awareness on leading a healthy lifestyle on top of creating awareness on breast and cervical cancer prevention.

The activities including game stalls, performances, and most importantly, on-site health checks! That’s what Don’t Duck It Party by Passionately You is all about.

Among the highlights we have are :
- Free health check and, breast examination, and on-site vaccination
- Don’t Duck It Party Moves flash mob
- Raffles draw and prize giving & lots more

Assunta Hospital will be stationed at the Don’t Duck It Party to conduct health checks, to educate the ladies (and public) the importance of self examination to detect breast cancer, and on-site HPV vaccination.
